The final Brun Porsche 962C from 1990 competed internationally with multiple iconic sponsorships such as FATurbo, Guffanti-Repsol and Jägermeister in the early 90's.
Model History
The Porsche 962, introduced in 1984, emerged as a significant player in Porsche's illustrious racing lineage, following the success of the Porsche 956. Developed to meet both IMSA and Group C regulations, the 962 was an evolution that combined speed, reliability, and innovative engineering. Extensive testing was conducted at renowned tracks like Weissach and Monza to perfect its performance before its competitive debut. To enhance aerodynamics and reduce weight, Porsche utilized advanced materials, including aluminum and Kevlar-reinforced composite body panels.
The Porsche 962 achieved legendary status through its dominant performance in various racing series, including the World Sportscar Championship and the IMSA GT Championship. Its remarkable combination of power, handling, and aerodynamics secured numerous victories and cemented its place in motorsport history.
In the later stages of its racing career, Walter Brun, a prominent team owner and driver, made significant contributions to the legacy of the 962. Brun's team, Brun Motorsport, designed and developed their own chassis for the 962, incorporating unique enhancements and innovations that further optimized its performance.
Chassis 008BM
Initially pressed into service in 1990, 008BM debuted in the Torno/FATurbo livery and later competed under several distinctive banners, including Jägermeister, Coloni, and Guffanti-Repsol. This variety of sponsorships highlighted the car's versatility and broad appeal. The best result for 008BM came at Silverstone, where drivers Massimo Sigala and Bernard Santal achieved an impressive 8th place finish. The car's final competitive outings occurred in 1991, with races at Suzuka, Monza, and Silverstone. By the end of the year, Brun Motorsport had wound down their operations, and 008BM was retired from active competition.
As the ultimate Porsche Type 962 design, chassis 008BM in its iconic Jägermeister livery represents a significant piece of motorsport history. Its striking appearance and impressive pedigree make it a valuable addition to any serious Porsche collection. Furthermore, it stands as a competitive entry for prestigious Group C races held around the world, ready to shine again on the race track.
